Brown girls in STEM

In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the United Nations General Assembly declared 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and what better way to celebrate than talk with two wonderful ladies who are working in the science field themselves.

Dr Ashika Rai is a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the defence sector. She’s got a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and 5 and half years of experience in academia and industrial roles. If you think that’s all there is to her though, think again. When not rocking the engineering field, she’s found being a total glamour babe. After all it’s as she says “When I get told to choose between a screwdriver and a mascara, I say why not both??”

Aziza is a Business Analyst at a pharmaceutical consulting company, providing strategic insights for pharmaceutical companies. Before that, she did a PhD in Biochemistry at UCL, where she spent many of her days trying to find a solution to drug-resistant epilepsy, without accidentally killing her lab cells in the process. When not murdering innocent neurones, Aziza enjoys some her days mentoring young and upcoming leaders of the future, watching cat videos on Instagram and sleeping.
